Recommended reading in times of quarantine
The past two weeks have challenged me a lot into getting the most out of my non-billable time. One of the things that I believe I haven’t done enough is read. I will pick up pace eventually, so I don’t worry about it too much.
For those who haven’t figured out what to do with all the extra time they have now or just don’t know where to begin, here are a couple of professional books I strongly recommend. Enjoy!
Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull
First “professional” book I read somewhere in 2014. Great story on Pixar and its journey. Inspired my company’s name (WeCandor).
Drive by Daniel Pink
One of the top books I read last year. Great insights on how to move from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation.
Tribes by Seth Godin
If you ever needed a push to bring your ideas out into the world and step up as a leader. Here’s one for you!
The People’s Scrum by Tobias Mayer
A collection of writings roughly between 2005 and 2012. Very compelling to read that the ideas and issues brought up 10–15 years ago still stand today.
Extreme Agility by Michael Küsters
This one is preferably for people who are in the Agile world for a while. I promise that at least a few of the ideas will challenge your thinking!
The Goal by Eli Goldrath
A classic. Business novel around the Theory of Constraints. Written in the ‘80’s but still stands like a house.
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective people by Stephen Covey
If you want to change, you need to change your behaviour. Seven great ideas towards a better life. I promise!
De Collega’s Werken Thuis by Frank Van Massenhove & Tom Auwers
As far as I know this one’s only available in Dutch (and French?). The story and thinking behind the turnaround Frank Van Massenhove brought to the Belgian Social Security service.
